Annapurna I (8091m / 26544ft) is located on the Annapurna massif, east of a great gorge cut through the Himalaya by the Kali Gandaki river is an enormous Himalayan massif is the tenth highest mountain in the world. An eight membered French expedition team led by Maurice Herzog climbed the peak first on the 3rd June 1950 via the North face. The successful climbers were Maurice Herzog himself and Louis Lachenal. Baruntse is one the most significant peak lying close to Makalu, other 6,000m smaller peaks and between the Barun, Hongu and Imjatse valley of Khumbu. Geoff Harrow and Colin Todd first climbed this peak on 30th May 1954 by the South East ridge, which we use for our ascent too.
